Gunman fired shots at Nottinghamshire mum's house by mistake

Gunman Tiron Desuza left a Nottinghamshire mum 'scared' after firing gunshots into her door - by mistake.

The mum was at home with her young children in Egerton Walk, St Anne's at around 11.30am on May 2 last year when she heard a loud bang.

When she was unable to figure out what the noise was, she went to the kitchen.

Her young children then came downstairs and told her they saw broken glass by the rear window.

The mum pulled away her curtain to discover the door had been shot at - she immediately dialled 999.

Desuza, 21, was caught on CCTV riding a motorbike towards the Hucknall area before being located and arrested by police officers.

It is thought he used a modified blank-firing pistol and targeted the wrong property.

When officers searched his Magnolia Grove home in Hucknall, they discovered ball bearings, more than 100 blank rounds, some of which had been modified, the same type of bullets used in the shooting, some black powder used as a propellant and body armour.

Cannabis, drug paraphernalia and cash were also seized and evidence was found that Desuza was trying to make ammunition.

He has now been jailed for six years and eight months after pleading guilty to possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence, possession of a prohibited weapon and possession of cannabis with intent to supply at Nottingham Crown Court.

Detective Inspector Rachael North, of Nottinghamshire Police, led the investigation into the shooting. She said: “Although offences like this are extremely rare, we will always treat them with the utmost seriousness and investigate them thoroughly.

“Desuza is a dangerous individual who fired at an innocent family’s home. Thankfully no-one inside was injured but it was a very traumatic experience for the family who were alarmed, scared and tearful as a result of what happened.

“The use of firearms on our streets is completely unacceptable and I’m pleased we have been able to bring Desuza for justice.

“I hope the sentence handed to him will bring some closure to the victims and reassures our communities that this level of criminality will not be tolerated.”
