Gunman escapes with cigarettes and alcohol following armed robbery at shop

An axe-wielding gunman is being hunted by police following a robbery at a convenience store in Trafford.

Officers were called to Your Local Partners Convenience Shop on Woodsend Road in Urmston on Wednesday night.

According to GMP, a man armed with a hand gun and an axe stormed the premises just after 8pm.

He made threats towards staff before escaping the scene with alcohol and tobacco.

An investigation is underway, and no arrests have been made.

A spokesman for the GMP confirmed there were no injuries and said the robber fled before officers arrived at the scene.

A description of the man has not yet been released.

"We were called just after 8pm to a shop on Woodsend Road in Urmston following reports an alarm had activated," the force said.

"The incident is being treated as an armed robbery.

"A man armed with a hand gun and an axe entered the store and made threats.

"He fled with alcohol and tobacco prior to officers' arrival.

"Enquiries are ongoing."
