Gunman feared to be behind SIX terrifying city hold-ups

The same gunman is feared to have carried out SIX terrifying robberies across Liverpool in less then two weeks.

Police today confirmed they suspect the same armed robber is responsible for the the spate of hold-ups which has seen terrified staff threatened with a man brandishing a double-barrelled shotgun.

A bookmakers, two petrol stations and an off licence were among premises targeted.

Detectives from Merseyside Police released CCTV footage from some of the business who were hit this week.

Police said "in each case the offender threatened shop staff with what appeared to be a double barrelled shotgun."

And today police confirmed they have arrested a man suspected of carrying out all six robberies across the city.

Tuesday, June 4 - Mill Street, Toxteth

On Tuesday 4 June at around 4.50pm a man entered Oakfield Racing on Mill Street in Toxteth armed with a double-barrelled shotgun.

He demanded cash from the shop assistant who handed over a quantity before the robber left the store.

The shop worker is not believed to have been injured during this incident.

Friday, June 7 - Sefton Street

At around 12.50am on Friday, June 7, it was reported a man entered the BP Garage on Sefton Street and threatened staff with a double-barrelled shotgun.

He stole a quantity of cash from two tills before making off on foot in the direction of Hill Street.

Two staff members on duty at the time were uninjured but left shaken by their ordeal.

Sunday, June 9 - Scotland Road

In the early hours of Sunday, June 9 (around 1.15am) a man entered Telegraph Service Station on Scotland Road and threated a shop assistant with a double-barrelled shotgun.

The robber then made a demand for cash and when the staff member refused he struck the shop assistant on the arm.

Tuesday, June 11 - Park Road, Dingle

At around 11.45pm on Tuesday, June 11 a man armed with a double barrelled shotgun entered Park Beer off licence on Park Road in Dingle.

He demanded money from the shop assistant and the member of staff handed over a quantity of cash.

The robber then made off on foot down Park Road. The member of staff was uninjured but left shaken.

Today police said a 40-year-old man from Anfield has been arrested on suspicion of robbery.

And a 31-year-old man from Anfield was arrested on suspicion of cannabis possession and resisting arrest.

Both men have been taken to police stations for questioning.

A spokesman added: "Between 4-16 June, six robberies have been reported at businesses in Liverpool which detectives believe may be linked.

"In each case the offender threatened shop staff with what appeared to be a double barrelled shotgun."
