Gun terror triggers panic among Christmas shoppers at US mall

Christmas shoppers fled in terror after shots were fired in a retail mall in America.

Terrified employees in Atlanta were reported to be hiding in store cupboards while police swooped on the scene.

Online footage shows Christmas shoppers, including families with young children, running in terror at the Cumberland Mall.

Witnesses claim they heard gunshots in the food court. They told how they ran out of the mall or hid inside shops until police arrived.

"Multiple shots I heard while inside the mall."

Another wrote: "Y’all I think they was just shooting in the mall and everybody was running for they lives. I’m literally shaking."

A third added: "There was a shooting in the food court at Cumberland Mall. I hope everyone is safe, prayers going up."

Cobb County Police said on Twitter: "No Active Shooter at Cumberland Mall. We are continuing to gather information but this is not an active shooter event. It appears this was an isolated incident.

"Once we get more information we will update."
