Gun discovered at popular Scots walking spot as cops launch probe

Cops have launched a probe after finding a gun at a popular Scots walking spot at the weekend.

Emergency services attended Scone Wood in Perth and Kinross around 4pm on Sunday after a firearm was found in the area.

The wooded walkway is popular with dog walkers and the incident has been described as "very concerning" by the local community.

Enquiries into the discovery remain ongoing with cops probing to establish the full circumstances.

The gun was safely recovered by officers.

Posting about the incident on Facebook, Scone Community Council warned people of the finding and branded it as "very concerning".

One person commented: "I did wonder why there were four police vehicles there the other day when I came back from the gym.

"Bit concerning…"

It is understood a police dog unit was in attendance at the woods in the Stormont Road area, alongside firearm and forensic officers.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said : “We can confirm that a firearm was found within Scone Woods, at around 4pm on Sunday, 12 September.

"It was safely recovered and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances."
