Gun discovered at derelict Springburn pub as the Talisman is demolished

Police have recovered a gun from a derelict pub that is in the process of being demolished.

Officers found the firearm near the Talisman on Balgrayhill Road in Springburn after being called to the site around 3.40 pm on Thursday, April 6.

The area was cordoned off by police throughout the day following the discovery of a 'suspicious item'.

A spokesman for Police Scotland said: “We can confirm that a firearm was found in a derelict building on Balgrayhill Road, Glasgow, around 3.40pm on Thursday, April 8

“It was safely recovered and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”

The pub is currently being demolished after years of talks between the owner and Glasgow City Council.

The local authority was locked in negotiations with the owner over the future of the "eyesore" sight. In November, last year, the owner was told to either demolish the building or agree to sell it to the council.

The Balgrayhill Road site was described by the council as a “visual and environmental blight” on the area, which poses “a potential danger to the community”.
