A man has been arrested and charged after firearms cops swooped on an Edinburgh park following reports of a disturbance with a crossbow.
Officers were called to the scene within Inverleith Park shortly before 7pm on Wednesday as stunned locals looked on.
One runner told how he saw around half a dozen armed police speaking to a group of revellers that had been enjoying the late evening sunshine.
He said: "At first I saw a couple of them but there were about half a dozen of them standing in the middle of the field.
"I thought it was so weird because there was folk drinking around them and just hanging out. It just seemed really odd.
"They said it wasn't to do with the drinkers. You just don't see that sort of thing. It was so odd."
Police Scotland have now confirmed that a 20-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the crossbow incident but said there was no wider risk to the public.
A force spokesperson added: “Around 6.50pm on Wednesday, 14 April, we received a report of a disturbance involving a crossbow within Inverleith Park, Edinburgh.
“Officers attended and a 20-year-old man was arrested and charged in connection and a report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal. A crossbow was recovered at the park.
“There were no reports of any injuries and no ongoing risk to the public. Enquiries are ongoing.”
