Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Dr. Nayef Al-Hajraf underlined the need to complete the requirements for the establishment of the customs union, in line with the decisions of the Supreme Council of the GCC Leaders and the vision of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz, which was approved by the Council in 2015.
Al-Hajraf stressed the importance to activate the role of the Customs Union Authority and enable it to carry out all tasks entrusted to it, in order to move towards achieving the desired integration in the economic fields.
His remarks came during a meeting with the members of the GCC Customs Union Authority at the headquarters of Expo 2020 on Sunday, as part of the events and activities hosted by the GCC pavilion.
During the meeting, Al-Hajraf gave a detailed presentation of the decisions of the Supreme Council in its 42nd session that was held in Riyadh in December, and its directives regarding the Gulf Customs Union, which fall within King Salman's vision.
He pointed to the importance of activating the customs union in order to carry out its work efficiently, adding that the concerned authority must be granted all the necessary powers to achieve this goal and agree on non-customs restrictions for the GCC countries.
