Gujarat University stops online classes

AHMEDABAD: Moving away from government guidelines for the reopening of schools, colleges and other educational institutions in the state, Gujarat University seems to have raked up a new controversy as it has stopped online classes and told students of various departments to start in-person classes at full capacity.

“Students of various GU departments have been instructed to attend oncampus education from December 13, as online education has been discontinued. On Monday, about 40 students attended in-person classes,” said a source in GU.

The government has so far not issued any directive to halt online education and switch back to in-person classes.

“This is blatant disregard to government guidelines. According to the prevailing rules, only 50% of the class strength can attend inperson classes. The remaining 50% of students are to attend the following day. The university departments have allowed students to attend classes without restriction on their numbers,” said a source.

According to government guidelines, attendance is not compulsory for inperson classes and online education is to continue for students not attending classes in person.
