Gujarat: Temple desecrated in Rapar, one held

RAJKOT: A Shiva temple was desecrated in Bhutakiya village of Kutch’s Rapar district, the third such incident in the district since June 4. Police arrested the accused Narsinh Koli within hours of the incident.

When the temple priest Ishwarpuri Goswami and his son went to the temple at 5 am on Tuesday, they saw the Shivling lying outside and the ‘shesh nag’ made out of copper damaged. They immediately informed the villagers who called Adesar police.

G G Jadeja, inspector, Adesar police station said that a team of cops started inquiring with the locals and got information that Koli had been moving around the temple in a suspicious manner.

They nabbed Koli from Patadiya Vandh locality of Rapar and he confessed to vandalism.

“We are questioning him about the motive for desecration,” said Jadeja.

Earlier on June 5, idols were desecrated in a Shiva temple and Momai mata temple in Bhachau taluka’s Chandrodi village.
