Gujarat: Power theft detected in alleged drug peddler’s house in Jamnagar

RAJKOT: Power theft to the tune of Rs 5 lakh was detected from the house of an alleged drug peddler who is absconding, during a raid by the Jamnagar superintendent of police Premsukh Delu.

According to Delu, he and his team periodically raid houses of listed bootleggers and drug peddlers to keep a check on their operations.

On Thursday night, Delu with a team of local crime branch (LCB) and special operations group (SOG) raided the house of Isha Hussain Rav and Mukhtar Nurmohamed Rav in Jodiya town of Jamnagar. Both, Isha and Mukhtar are accused of drug peddling in a case registered by the state anti-terrorism squad (ATS) in Morbi. While Isha is absconding, Mukhtar is in jail.

"I asked the family members to show the electricity bills as proof of residence. The electricity bill amount was very low compared to the size of the house and the electrical equipment in use there. I informed the PGVCL team and they detected power theft to the tune of Rs 5 lakh," said Delu.

According to Paschim Gujarat Vij Company Ltd (PGVCL), the residents had tampered with the electricity meter. The team found electricity theft of Rs 2.80 lakh in one connection and Rs 2.65 lakh in another one. Following the detection electricity supply to both houses was disconnected.
