AHMEDABAD: On Friday, Gujarat completed recoveries of 10 lakh Covid patients, achieving an overall recovery rate at 88.3%. Of the rest, 1% consists of deceased patients and 10.7% are active patients.
Out of the total, Ahmedabad district accounts for 3.1 lakh or 30% of the total Covid recoveries so far. At an estimated population of 6.5 crore for Gujarat, it amounts to 1.5% of the total population, said experts.
Gujarat recorded 101 deaths of Covid patients in the past four days. Out of this, 33 or one-third of the deaths were from Ahmedabad city alone. With 19,000 cases in past four days, this put the mortality rate at 0.2%. For the third consecutive day, daily cases in Ahmedabad showed a drop. From 5,303 cases on January 25, it dropped to 5,248 on Wednesday, then 4,405 on Thursday and 4,046 on Friday. The city however still accounts for one-third of the daily cases of Gujarat. The state recorded 12,131 cases on Friday. Cases in the hospitals have also gone down, according to Ahmedabad Hospitals and Nursing Homes Association (AHNA). There were 116 patients in isolation wards, 99 in high-dependency units, 35 in ICUs and 24 on ventilatory beds. Cases at Civil Hospital hovered around 110, said authorities. Of these, about 50% required oxygen in some form.
The active cases in Ahmedabad district reduced to about 38,000 from its peak of 52,000 on January 23. The overall active cases in Gujarat was 1.07 lakh, a drop from the peak of 1.35 lakh on January 24.
