AHMEDABAD: After ordering the shutdown of Delhi Public School (DPS) East, Hirapur by the education department authorities, the parents are now demanding that the school be allowed to reopen for their children who have been enrolled there.
A group of parents met the director of primary education on Friday and made a representation in this regard claiming it will safeguard the future of their children.
"Many parents said that they were happy with the functioning of the school and did not want to move their children to any other school. They demanded that the school be allowed to function smoothly for the sake of students," said sources close to the development.
The school has not collected fees from parents nor has it started fresh admission for the academic year 2021-22, claimed a parent. He said the school conducted online education for its students in the current academic year.
There are about 380 students at DPS East and their parents have refused to take school leaving certificates (SLC). Many parents wanted the school authorities to carry out the task of transfer of students to other schools.
Earlier this month, DPS East was slapped a fine of Rs 1 lakh by the Ahmedabad district education officer (DEO) and district primary education office (DPEO) after complaints that the school was illegally admitting students for the academic year 2021-22 without approvals in place. tnn
