VADODARA: A woman residing in Umreth town of Anand district has accused her husband of giving triple talaq to her twice — once orally and then on Instagram.
She filed an offence regarding this at the Umreth police station.
The 25-year-old woman was married to Faisal Sheikh, a resident of Debhari village in Virpur taluka of Mahisagar district, in November 2019.
The couple does not have any children and the woman started facing harassment from Sheikh, his mother and his sister.
On July 25, Sheikh gave the woman triple talaq orally and asked her to leave his home.
The woman then went to her parent’s home and started staying there. Suspicious of Sheikh’s real intention, she sent him a request to connect on Instagram using a different identity and started chatting with him.
Eventually, Sheikh came to know her real identity and sent her another triple talaq on message over Instagram in November last year.
Umreth police sub-inspector C F Rathod said the offence was registered late as the woman was unaware of the provisions.
Sheikh was yet to be arrested. The offence was registered under provisions of the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Divorce) Act.
