Gujarat hate speech case: Kajal Hindustani released on conditional bail

RAJKOT: Self-styled social and right-wing activist Kajal Hindustani alias Singala, a resident of Jamnagar, was released on conditional bail by the sessions court in Una town of Gir Somnath district on Thursday.

Additional sessions judge R M Asodiya ordered her release on a bail bond of Rs 50,000.

Among the bail conditions are Hindustani will have to appear at a nearby police station in Jamnagar on the 1st and 15th of every month; she will have to appear regularly in the court till the trial is completed; she won’t enter Gir Somnath district till the trial ends except for court hearing; and she will not tamper with the evidence nor she will influence the witnesses.

Advocate Anil Desai who represented Hindustani said, "I argued that not a single ingredient is established prima facie of the charges pressed against my client. She is a law-abiding citizen and surrendered herself. The prosecution’s case is an abuse of the process of law."

The court, after a detailed hearing, had reserved the order on Hindustani’s bail application on Tuesday.

She was booked by Una police under IPC Sections 153 and 295A on April 2 after riots had broken out following her speech on the Ram Navami day on March 30. According to police, she had allegedly delivered a hate speech targeting a specific community in a congregation organised by the VHP in which local BJP MLA K C Rathod also shared the dais with her.

Hindustani, who claims to be an entrepreneur, research analyst, social activist, nationalist, and a "proud Indian" on her Twitter profile, is regular at events organised by VHP.

Police had also arrested 96 people for rioting in a separate FIR.
