Gujarat: Gazette to be published digitally, not in print

GANDHINAGAR: Printing of all kinds of gazettes will be discontinued and gazettes will be made available in digital format, the state government announced on Monday. Chief minister Vijay Rupani on Monday launched a website where the government gazettes will be available for free download, leading to savings of about 35 tonnes of paper annually, the government claimed.

The website - egazette.gujarat.gov.in - will contain gazette documents in digital format, which can be downloaded for free, the government informed.

The CM has also directed departments concerned to upload all earlier gazettes on to the website within a period of one month.

The government said the initiative is a major step towards achieving the goal of paperless governance.

The government currently has kept records of gazettes of the past 30 years, an official statement said, adding that all these gazettes will be converted into digital format in one month.

"The practice of QR code has been implemented for the authenticity of the copies of downloaded e-gazettes. Within a month, all gazettes available for the last three decades will be put up on the website," the release said.

The gazette is a public journal and an authorised legal document of the government. As a public journal, the gazette prints official notices from the government.

It is authentic in content, accurate and published strictly in accordance with the government policies and decisions.
