Gujarat: Drunk youth climbs atop Sarangpur water tank, rescued

AHMEDABAD: A mentally unstable youth climbed atop a water tank in Sarangpur on Tuesday morning, sending locals into a tizzy.

Worried that he would jump off, they tried hard to convince him to get down, but in vain. The man who was later rescued was also found to be drunk.

He kept onlookers on tenterhooks for 20 minutes, attempting to climb down one moment and going back up the other. After someone informed Khadia corporator Pankaj Bhatt of the high drama, he called up Panchkuva fire brigade officials who reached the spot with a hydraulic platform. However, before they could begin the rescue operation, the youth climbed down and was whisked away by the city police. Some of the officials had convinced him into climbing down.

The fire officials said that he was drunk and mentally unstable. The cops said that he had no intention of committing suicide.
