Gujarat: Dead man ‘jabbed’, kin shocked

PALANPUR: Family members of Mukesh Joshi, who had died three months ago, were in for a shock on Friday after they got a message on his mobile phone that the deceased had received his second dose of Covid jab.

The message came on the phone number used by deceased Joshi, a resident of Palanpur town in Banaskantha, which is now being used by other family members, said a district health official. He added that it was a human error caused by a wrong data entry done by a health worker.

“While entering details, health worker erroneously entered the phone number of the deceased instead of the actual person who got the vaccine,” Banaskantha immunisation officer Dr Jignesh Haryani told TOI.

“This happened because Joshi died after taking the first dose. However, his name kept showing in the list of people whose second dose was pending. So when it was time for Joshi’s second dose on Friday, his name showed up in the list and the operator entered his phone number,” said Haryani, adding that the worker responsible for the error was suspended.
