Gujarat court refuses bail to man in Rs 2.69 crore sextortion case

AHMEDABAD: A city sessions court in Ahmedabad has denied regular bail to a resident of Bharatpur in Rajasthan, Talim Khan (22), who is accused of extorting Rs 2.69 crore from a Navrangpura businessman by luring him in a sex video clip and blackmailing him by posing as a CBI officer.

The court refused bail to Khan with observation that co-accused are yet to be arrested. The accused has already tampered with official documents and the investigation is underway. He seems to have played a role in the sextortion racket.

Ahmedabad’s cyber crime police nabbed him and slapped him with different charges under IPC and Information Technology Act. He had allegedly extorted Rs 2.69 crore form the businessman, who complained that the accused was blackmailing him by telling him that the woman, who had undress herself in a video clip, committed suicide and her family members were to file a criminal complaint.

Public prosecutor Sudhir Brahmbhatt and advocate Keyur Gandhi for the complainant opposed the bail plea by pointing out to the accused’s modus operandi.

After hearing the bail plea, additional sessions judge H A Trivedi noted that Khan allegedly made a woman contact the victim through messages and video calls and got his video clip. He then threatened to make the video viral on social media. Later the victim was conveyed that the woman who undressed in the video clip has committed suicide.

The accused posed himself as a CBI officer and forged his ID card and letter pad of the Delhi high court. From the phones recovered from Khan, the police found videos of women undressing themselves and cops also recovered slips of various amounts received by him.
