RAJKOT: Had she not met with the accident she would have been shopping for clothes and jewellery to begin a new life after marriage. But instead, in her death, 20-year-old Nidhi Srivastava from Jamnagar gave a new lease of life to five persons. After Nidhi was declared brain dead by doctors on Thursday, her family decided to donate her organs —two kidneys, a liver and a pancreas.
According to Nidhi’s father Sonulal Srivastava, he was in his hometown Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, last week to fix his daughter’s marriage. This is when he got the news that Nidhi had fallen down in the house and suffered injury on the back of the head. She was rushed to a hospital in Jamnagar and later shifted to a hospital in Ahmedabad. Sonulal, a labourer, is native of Varanasi but settled in Jamnagar for many years.
Nidhi was hospitalised in Ahmedabad for four days and the family was hoping that she would respond to treatment and recover. But the doctors on Thursday declared her brain dead.
A family member said, “We were preparing for the marriage. Her father had gone to finalise the dates. But now we are all devastated. Last week were planning her wedding and today we are planning her funeral.”
After Nidhi was declared brain-dead, the family was explained the importance of organ donation. Following this, they decided to donate her kidneys, liver and pancreas. The organs will give new lives to five patients and their families.
Sonulal said, “My daughter has died, but she will live in the five persons who will get her organs.”
