Gujarat ATS nabs 24 people, seizes 54 weapons in Saurashtra

AHMEDABAD: Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) officers on Thursday said that they have nabbed 24 men and seized 54 weapons—mostly country made revolvers from them, during their search operations in three districts of Saurashtra—Rajkot, Surendranagar and Botad.

According to the ATS officers, they had on Tuesday nabbed two accused Devendra Boria, a resident of Sudamna village in Sayla taluka of Surendranagar and Champraj Khachar, resident of Than in Surendranagar, at Geeta Mandir ST bus stand.

The ATS officers said that they found four country-made revolvers, two each from the two men. The accused persons told the cops that the weapons were bought from Kukshi district of Madhya Pradesh and were supposed to be given to a man in Vadodara.

The Gujarat ATS registered a case against the two and began an investigation.

During their questioning, the two accused told the cops that they had earlier bought at least 100 weapons from Madhya Pradesh and delivered them to different persons in Rajkot, Surendranagar and Botad districts of Saurashtra.

Acting on this input, a team comprising four PSIs – RB Rana, BH Korat, KM Bhuva and KR Vyas was formed, and a search operation was conducted in various parts of the Saurashtra region on Wednesday.

During this search operation, Gujarat ATS officers caught 22 more men and 50 weapons—mostly country-made revolvers, were seized from their possession.

The ATS officers said that search operations are ongoing and there is probability to get more weapons from different places in Saurashtra.

The police officers said that Boria had jumped parole in a case of attempt to murder lodged with Sayla police of Surendranagar on February 28, 2022. Apart from that, he was accused in the cases of arms act and prohibition act also. Apart from that, Khachar was also allegedly involved in crimes under IPC for attempt to murder along with arms act and prohibition act in Surendranagar.
