SURAT: At least five people died when a truck, carrying a container, overturned on a car in Navsari district of Gujrat on Monday evening.
The car with a CNG cylinder got completely crushed leading to death of those inside.
The deceased were from Samroli village near Chikhli in Navsari and preliminary police investigation revealed that the deceased were returning to their village after visiting Surat.
The operation to recover the bodies continued for over two hours as the bodies were crushed within the car.
The incident took place on Kasbapar to Dhola Pipla road that links Surat Navsari state highway and National Highway 48.
It is a two-lane road and investigation revealed that the vehicles collided leading to the container driver losing control over the steering.
The container overturned as it moved out of the road.
Both the vehicles were off the road.
"The exact details of the accident are yet to be investigated. Police are focusing on rescue operations at present as a couple of bodies are yet to be separated from the crushed car," said a police officer at Navsari rural police station.
