Guinness Storehouse visit on the card for Abraham Ancer's Portrush preparations

A Guinness Storehouse visit will be part of Irish Open title contender Abraham Ancer’s preparation for Portrush in under a fortnight’s time.

While Patrick Reed and Bryson DeChambeau almost committed to host Paul McGinley before decided to head to this week’s PGA tour event in Minnesota instead, Ancer accepted and is delighted he did.

The Mexican, who is 59th in the world, shot a 67 yesterday to follow up his opening 66 to leave himself a shot behind Eddie Pepperell and two behind South Africa’s “estatic” tournament leader Zander Lombard (right) on nine-under.

“I love it,” declared Ancer. “I’ve been to some parts of Europe before but never Ireland, and it’s phenomenal.

“The views out here, the golf course, everything, has been phenomenal, and the people have been great, too.

“I’ve had a couple pints (of Guinness). It’s been really good. I’m sure next week, I’m going to have a week off in Dublin, so I’m actually going to go to the (Storehouse) factory and it’s going to be fun.”

Ancer, 28, has decided not to play the Scottish Open and will likely limber up for The Open by playing links courses in and around Dublin.
