Guinness is going green by getting rid of all plastic packaging.
The move is part of a €18 million commitment by parent company Diageo to tackle rising levels of pollution.
The initiative will see the company getting rid of plastic ring carriers or shrink wrap for multipacks of Guinness, Harp, and Smithwick’s.
It is hoped that this will cut plastic use by more than 400 tonnes a year.
Mark Sandys, Diageo’s global head of beer, said: “For 260 years Guinness has played a vital role in the communities around us.
“We already have one of the most sustainable breweries in the world at St James’s Gate and we are now leading the way in sustainable packaging.
“We have been working tirelessly to make our packaging more environmentally friendly and I’m thrilled with this outcome for Guinness and our other global beer brands.”
