A man who claimed self-defence in fatally stabbing his drug dealer during a robbery at a caravan park has been found guilty of murder.

Raymond Allen, 41, killed army veteran David McArthur, 48, at the Palm Beach Caravan Park on the NSW south coast by stabbing him once in the chest about 8pm on July 25, 2021.

On Wednesday, a jury delivered the guilty verdict after deliberating for a few hours during a trial at the Wollongong Supreme Court.

Allen murdered Mr McArthur during a robbery in which he and two other men drove from Nowra to the caravan park in Sanctuary Point with the intention of stealing drugs or money.

The army veteran sold methamphetamine out of his cabin at the time of his death.

A neighbour heard Mr McArthur's cries for help, forcing her way through his cabin's door which had been barricaded by a dishwasher.

She and another man attempted to provide CPR as the victim lay bleeding out on the kitchen floor. Paramedics announced him dead at the scene.

Allen claimed his reflexes kicked into action when he was grabbed by the throat by the large-bodied army veteran, and that he stabbed him once in the chest in an act of self-defence.

He will be sentenced at a later date.
