Guilty plea over Tas attempted abduction

A 41-year-old man has admitted trying to abduct a young girl from a remote campground in northwest Tasmania.

The girl, who is in primary school, suffered bruising in the incident at Montagu campgrounds on Sunday evening.

Cecil Maurice Mabb appeared in Burnie Magistrates Court on Friday and pleaded guilty to charges of attempted abduction and assault.

He is expected to be sentenced on March 9.

Mabb was arrested in bushland on Monday after abandoning his car and evading police for the best part of a day.
