A man originally accused of pretending to be a spy has pleaded guilty to defrauding a man out of almost $720,000.
Jeremiah Deakin appeared before the ACT Supreme Court on Wednesday and pleaded guilty to obtaining the money by deception between January 31, 2016 and September 15, 2018.
Deakin was originally charged with 156 counts of obtaining property by deception and 78 counts of falsely representing a commonwealth official.
Police raided Deakin's home in February 2020 and initially alleged he pretended to be an officer from the Australian Security and Intelligence Organisation to defraud the victim.
Police seized three horses and a ute during their investigation.
His lawyer said the facts of the case were mostly agreed to except for the characterisation of Deakin's relationship with the man he defrauded.
This may lead to a dispute over the some of the facts of the case when the matter next comes before the court on November 18, the court was told.
