Guide to make contemporary jewellery a part of your ethnic wardrobe

The best part about contemporary jewellery is that it is so versatile it can be paired with anything. If you’re wearing something heavy in terms of the detailing on your clothing, or complicated silhouettes, then it would be a good idea to go with something understated. When you’re wearing lighter, plain fabrics, and simpler silhouettes, then statement jewellery should be ideal. It’s all about balance. Talking about contemporary fine jewellery, you have certain staples that never go out of style and can be easily paired with ethnic wear. Prakshi Sharma, Creative Head & Designer at Prakshi Fine Jewellery shares some classic contemporary jewellery ideas.

Contemporary jewellery would include your small but timeless diamond earrings or studs set in yellow, rose, or white gold as per your outfit. The possibilities are also endless if you try mixing and matching with ear clips or jackets for a more modern ethnic look. Add your favourite solitaire ring and a tennis bracelet with a watch and you’re good to go with a kurta or suit set.

Replacing bangles with stacking multiple dainty bracelets gives us the jingle we crave with ethnicwear. One of our personal favourite ways to style contemporary fine jewellery is stacking multiple layers of dainty rings and bands for an OTT look with the simplest of ethnic outfits for festive occasions. It looks so edgy and stylish. Remember NOT to wear bracelets with this one. Goes without saying that you can’t go wrong with layering up or down dainty diamond pendants and necklaces either. With wide necklines either chuck the neckpiece out completely or just wear a small one to give that effortless look. With deep or V necklines, layering would be very fashionable unless the clothing isn’t minimal. In that case a pendant with a diamond or coloured gemstone according to the outfit colours should be it or just earrings. High/round neck outfits can be paired with a choker and a long chain.

Lastly, we think coloured gemstone jewellery is most fun to play with! The bright green hues in emeralds, the rich red in rubies and the endless colour options in sapphires add an element of pop to the outfit.
