Guglielmo Vicario breaks silence ahead of Tottenham Hotspur transfer from Empoli

Guglielmo Vicario has broken his social media silence for the first time since reports over his move to Tottenham Hotspur from Empoli began to gather pace.

The 26-year-old goalkeeper is expected to complete the switch to Spurs, reportedly in a deal worth 19m euros (£16.3m), within the next 48 hours. Vicario will become the first new face of the Ange Postecoglou era to arrive at Hotspur Way ahead of pre-season which begins on Saturday, July 1 for some of the Australian's first team.

In the early hours of Sunday morning, Vicario posted a photo of himself and his agent Gabriele Giuffrida on his Instagram story with the caption "#LivingTheDream" followed by a red flashing warning light, perhaps hinting at what it is to come next for him. The Italy international is now expected to complete his medical tests in England and tie up the final details of his move to Tottenham over the next two days.

Vicario was one of the most highly-rated goalkeepers in Serie A last season, following on from a first impressive campaign with Empoli in the competition the previous year. Inter, Juventus, Napoli, Bayern Munich, Manchester United and Brighton have all been credited with an interest in the stopper in recent months.

After exploring a move for Brentford's David Raya, Spurs had to move fast for Vicario due to the widespread belief that Inter were set to approach Empoli for the goalkeeper to make him their new number one if their stopper Andre Onana moves this summer, with United and Chelsea interested in the Cameroonian.

Vicario was on the bench for Italy during their UEFA Nations League matches this month and the belief in his homeland is that Tottenham have grabbed themselves a bargain in the man set to succeed Hugo Lloris, who announced recently that he wants a new challenge after 11 years at the north London club.
