Guest house expands with new restaurant, bar and cafe

A Lanarkshire guest house has been given a revamp with a new restaurant, bar, coffee shop and cooking school.

The Old School Guest House near Chatelherault Park in Lanarkshire was taken over by husband and wife Richard and Jane Koiak, brother-in-law and sister of the previous owners who founded it in 2010.

They have expanded it with six new rooms, five of them en-suite, and facilities thanks to a six-figure funding package from Royal Bank of Scotland. There is also now an annexe bungalow sleeping up to four people at the guest house in Larkhall.

The restaurant will open mainly in the evenings, while the bar will serve meals throughout the day. The coffee shop is already open for business.

The Koiaks aim to use the restaurant and kitchen facilities to host a cookery school and will sign up a chef to deliver courses.

Richard said: “We could see the potential of the guest house immediately, thanks to its location – only a 10-minute drive to Chatelherault Park and other local attractions, as well is under an hour to Loch Lomond and various golf courses – and the guest house’s wide range of existing facilities.

“We’re pleased to be expanding our offering to guests even further, with the new restaurant, guest lounge and bar currently under construction, to create a destination for visitors and members of the local community alike.

“Royal Bank of Scotland has provided a high level of advice and support throughout the purchase and refurbishment of the premises, and as a small business with multiple things to juggle, we’ve been very grateful for their guidance.”

Jack Malcolm, relationship manager at Royal Bank of Scotland, said: “This is already a very successful business with a five out of five rating on Trip Advisor, and I have no doubt the new restaurant, coffee shop and cooking school will be a success, thanks to Richard and Jane’s hard work and dedication.”
