Was Kanye West pulling a Donald Trump on Tuesday morning, or vice versa? The two masters of media attention emerged from the Trump Tower lobby elevator together Tuesday morning _ and that's a heck of a lot more exciting than seeing Mike Pence or Rudy Giuliani.
The two paused for a moment at the press pen, with Donald being Donald and Kanye being Kanye.
"Just friends. Just friends," Trump told reporters, who asked him what he and West had discussed. "He's a good man, doing well. We've been friends for a long time."
Asked what they discussed, Trump said simply, "Life." West stood, with a serious face and arms crossed over his chest. No mention of whether he was being considered to perform as part of inaugural festivities in January.
"I just wanted to take a picture right now," the rapper said, cracking a smile after someone asked why he didn't have anything to say. The last time West had something to say about Trump was when he expressed admiration for the politician's campaign style during a concert just days before canceling the balance of his Life of Pablo Tour and suffering an apparent breakdown.
"You take care of yourself," Trump told the entertainer-designer as he slapped him on the back. The two gripped hands. "I'll see you soon. You look good."
Trump then headed back up the elevator with his team, which included daughter Ivanka Trump. West had hustled past the press pool without comment when he and an entourage _ including a videographer _ entered the building at 9:13 a.m. (Nowhere in sight? Kim Kardashian, his wife.) He left 40 minutes later.
The "Life of Pablo" artist, who was recently hospitalized for more than a week after a breakdown, had asked for 15 minutes with the president-elect, according to TMZ.
Also on Tuesday, the president-elect's transition team announced the pick for secretary of state. It's probably safe to assume that Rex Tillerson is unlikely to appear on "Keeping Up with the Kardashians" any time soon.
