Guess what? They are doing work in Swansea's The Kingsway again, but it's still good news

Drivers have been warned of two weeks of disruption along one of Swansea city centre's main roads as materials arrive ahead of work starting on a major new office development at the site of a famous old nightclub.

Swansea Council said that for the next fortnight, from Wednesday, January 19, there will be traffic management in place along The Kingsway and that people should expect delays if they're planning on travelling down the road.

The move is to allow a supply of materials to be brought to the site of the former Oceana nightclub, which has also been known as Time and Envy, Ritzy and Icon, and Top Rank in past guises.

The materials will be used to construct a major new office development which will provide space for 600 jobs in the tech, digital and creative industry sectors. Swansea Council said that when the development was complete in the summer of 2023, it would be worth £32.6m a year to Swansea’s economy.

The scheme will include 114,000 square feet of commercial space, digital connectivity and integration with smart technology, conference and meeting facilities, public access and a new pedestrian link between The Kingsway and Oxford Street.

There will also be a roof terrace, greenery throughout the building and a new public space, along with balconies overlooking the city centre and Swansea Bay. Bouygues UK is the main contractor for the development, and construction work will start in the summer.

Funding for the scheme comes from Swansea Council and the Swansea Bay City Deal, and the scheme is also being supported by the European Regional Development Fund through the Welsh Government.
