Guerrero, Colback and looking up - Key talking points from Nottingham Forest's win over Wycombe

Nottingham Forest can rest up during the international break safe in the knowledge they picked up maximum points from home games against Coventry City and Wycombe Wanderers last week.

Here, we take a look at the key talking points coming out of the 2-0 win against Wycombe at the City Ground on Saturday.

Guerrero's emergence

When Forest signed Miguel Guerero he was billed as a battering ram who could shake up games from the bench.

It's now clear he's not a target man, but he could be a shrewd acquisition as a deep lying forward on the evidence of this game.

Playing off Lyle Taylor, Guerrero linked the play well and showed a deft touch. He has given his manager food for thought and laid down a challenge to Luke Freeman, who has underwhelmed so far as a number 10 given his talent.

Taylor takes centre stage

Taylor plays with self belief and quality. He spoke afterwards about the need for Forest players to be willing to come out of the side when needed, but he appears to thrive on being the main man in the absence of the injured Lewis Grabban.

He has already hit four goals in a Forest shirt and looks like he can get a good few more this season.

Colback's resurgence

The former Newcastle midfielder has come in for criticism for his early season form. While he has struggled in some games to an extent, that is understandable after a year in exile at his old club.

He looked near his very best against Wycombe though as he benefits from a run of games. There were timely interceptions, snappy tackles and economical passing in the centre of the Reds midfield.

A crucial week

Much was made of the importance of this week given it featured home games against teams promoted from League One last season.

Two wins left Forest still 20th in the Championship with 12 points from 11 games, but they are only two points off 12th place.

Had they lost both, they would be sat on six points and level on points at the bottom of the table with Sheffield Wednesday and Derby County, who are now in a relegation battle.

Now Forest have a well timed break to restore energy levels and let their manager take stock after seven games in 21 days since coming to the club.
