Gucci cancels cruise 2021 show due to coronavirus fears

Gucci is the latest fashion brand to take precautions against the spread of coronavirus by cancelling a fashion show.

In an announcement made on Monday night, the Italian fashion house cited “the ongoing uncertainty prompted by the coronavirus outbreak” as the reason for pulling the plug on the annual cruise show.

Gucci hosted its Milan Fashion Week show as planned on February 19, but as the death toll from the Covid-19 virus continues to rise, the brand felt it necessary to take this “precautionary measure.”

“A decision on the new timing and location of the show will be announced at a later date, once the situation becomes clearer. At this time, our thoughts are with all of those affected around the world,” the company said in a statement.

Other brands have already cancelled upcoming fashion shows. Giorgio Armani decided to cancel his Milan Fashion Week show at the last minute, instead choosing to live stream it digitally to audiences from behind closed doors.

The news follows Prada’s recent decision to cancel its cruise show that would have been held on May 21 in Japan.

Upcoming fashion weeks in Shanghai, Beijing, and Seoul and Tokyo have also been cancelled, as have upcoming Italian trade shows Micam and Mido. Watches & Wonders in Geneva and Baselworld have also been postponed due to the coronavirus outbreak.
