Gucci, Armani and Mulberry for sale at new Gorbals charity shop

Gucci, Armani and Mulberry items will all be for sale at a new charity shop that is swinging open its doors in the Gorbals this month.

The items will be a part of a designer extravaganza which will mark the opening of the new Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice shop in the south side of the city on Saturday, March 21.

Since issuing the call in February for people to donate their pre-loved designer and high-end clothes, shoes, bags and ornaments, more than 250 items have been handed in.

Among the donated items are a Gucci bag, a Mulberry bag, an Armani jacket, Carvela shoes, a Paul Costelloe laptop bag and collectible Capodimonti figures.

Rhona Baillie, Chief Executive of The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice, said: We have been completely overwhelmed by the amount and the quality of the donations we’ve received.

“Our hospice shops are only able to operate because of the generosity of their local communities.

"Each day, people donate items to our shops, from which all profits go directly towards helping us care for 1,200 patients and their families each year.

The Gorbals location also allows us to launch our new ‘Shop with a Conscience’ concept".

The new shop will be officially opened on Saturday 21 March at 10am by STV weather presenter and Climate Correspondent, Laura Piper.

Laura hit the headlines at the end of 2019 when it was revealed that, as a charity shop and ethical clothing enthusiast, she had worn a different charity shop outfit in each of her 100 weather broadcasts.

Laura commented: “I am absolutely thrilled to be invited along to help The Prince Princess of Wales Hospice officially open their Gorbals Shop. I am a true advocate of charity shops and ethical shopping. There’s so much waste when it comes to clothing with many items being worn once or twice and then ending up in landfill.

“Charity shops such as the Gorbals shop really are an invaluable resource for the community to recycle their items and pick up bargains at the same time. I am looking forward to having a look through all their stock and possibly find my next broadcast outfit.

Rhona Baillie continued: “I am delighted that the Gorbals shop is now open in the heart of the community. Our shop staff and volunteers have worked hard over the past months to finalise the shop for opening and now we want as many people to come along and visit us and have a look round. You never know what you might find".

People can still donate their pre-loved designer and high-end items to the Gorbals Hospice Shop, located at 156 Crown Street, ahead of the opening.

The shop can be contacted on 0141 429 9817 or people can simply drop their items into any one of the17 hospice shops throughout Glasgow and mark them “designer weekend”.
