'Guardiola dreams of Dean Holden' - Bristol City fans hail head coach after Sheffield Wednesday win

It's taken around six weeks but you'll struggle to find anyone in the red half of Bristol who has a bad word to say about Dean Holden right now.

After his appointment in early August was met with a crescendo of criticism - admittedly mainly levelled at the board - and doubts over his suitability and credentials for the job, Holden's popularity is soaring.

Results on the pitch help, of course, and five wins from six matches in all competitions, but most importantly three straight in the Championship has formed a trust and faith in his management.

City are playing committed, vibrant and attacking football which, despite the thousands of unfortunate empty seats at Ashton Gate, is making the Robins a watchable team again.

The latest was Sunday's 2-0 victory over Sheffield Wednesday in which City were slightly fortunate to emerge goalless at half-time then took hold of the game after the break.

It is now an event, and an enjoyment to sit through 90 minutes of a Bristol City match; not an obligation driven through loyalty.

With nine points on the board, joining Reading as the only other side with a perfect record in the Championship, the idea that City should be aiming low with Holden has proven nonsense.

Beyond that, though, is Holden himself. His team is proving an extension of his personality and he has united the fanbase behind the project taking place at BS3.

True to his word - and he always is - Holden visited legendary Bedminster pub The Three Lions on Saturday afternoon for a pint and a chat with several City fans.

Holden spent three hours holding court, with word spreading across social media only enhancing the glowing character assessment that is coming to light: warm, honest, funny, humble and passionate.

It's very much early days and the inevitable Premier League cries are somewhat premature but also totally understandable given the sense of euphoria and excitement generated by Holden's team.

There are still 43 league fixtures remaining in a division which is notoriously tough to predict but what's certain is that the anger, frustration and bewilderment that was evident in early August has completely disappeared.
