Guardian Australia has won the Promotion of Climate Action category at the 2018 UN Day Media Awards for its interactive story about the Murray-Darling basin.
The UN Day Media Awards seeks to promote understanding about humanitarian and social justice issues by recognising those in the Australian media whose contributions stimulate public awareness and understanding.
Guardian article Murray-Darling basin: when a river runs dry, produced by Anne Davies, Nick Evershed, Andy Ball and Mike Bowers, takes an in-depth look at how one of Australia’s great river systems is under stress. The interactive piece traces a 3000km journey along the rivers, travelling from inland Queensland to the Murray mouth, to understand where the Murray-Darling basin plan has failed those who live and work on the land.
