Around 400 people are believed to have been killed in an earthquake that hit Kerman province of Iran early this morning. We'll have the latest on the rescue operation, while Paddy Allen has created an interactive guide explaining how earthquakes happen.

We'll also be following George Bush's European charm offensive. He met Tony Blair in Brussels this morning, and will be talking to Ukraine's new president, Viktor Yushchenko, later today.

There's also a lot of news back in Britain: Ken Livingstone is still defiant in the face of calls for him to apologise for comparing a Jewish journalist to a concentration camp guard. Northern Ireland secretary Paul Murphy will be announcing his plans to punish Sinn Féin for its alleged involvement in the recent Belfast bank raid. And the home secretary, Charles Clarke, is unveiling his revised plans to hold terror suspects under house arrest without trial.

Journalist and author Malcolm Gladwell is going live online today at 2.30pm to answer your questions about his latest book, Blink, which investigates why some people's gut instincts are better than others' and why snap judgments can often be right.
