The shortlist for the 2016 Guardian Sustainable Business Awards was announced yesterday (Monday 14 April), and two reader-nominated categories are now open: Unsung Hero and Leader of the Year.
The awards, now in their sixth year, celebrate business progress and innovation across a range of environmental, financial and social categories. They are open to businesses, public sector organisations, voluntary sector organisations, individuals and academic institutions that have operations in the UK.
Laura Paddison, editor of the Guardian Sustainable Business network said:
“We are awarding initiatives that go beyond standard sustainability practice and show a deeper commitment to making business better. We look for clear, measurable evidence of sustainable change as a result of the project.
“This year we have had more than 140 quality entries, showing that sustainability in business has grown far beyond a buzzword into a serious mainstream business priority. We have a very strong shortlist and congratulate everyone for getting this far and for their efforts towards sustainability.”
The shortlisted entries will be put to an expert panel of judges made up of some of the most prominent figures in sustainability including professor Paul Ekins of UCL, deputy chair of the Environment Agency Emma Howard Boyd, Greenpeace’s John Sauven and Catherine Howarth of ShareAction.
Readers can nominate their Unsung Hero and Leader of the Year by 25 March by filling in the form on the nomination page of the Guardian Sustainable Business Awards website.
All the category winners will be announced at a ceremony in London in May and will feature on the Guardian Sustainable Business Awards website and published in a special print supplement on 27 May.
