The Environmental Justice Foundation (EJF) is a UK-based non-profit organisation working internationally to protect the environment and defend human rights. EJF believes environmental security is a human right.
Our work focuses on protecting the world’s seas and oceans by investigating and exposing “pirate” fishing and exploitation in the seafood industry; showing the impacts of our changing global climate on vulnerable communities; and highlighting the effects of toxic pesticides. We train local people and communities in the latest video technologies, research and advocacy skills, enabling them to investigate, expose and combat local threats to wildlife and wild places, and the people who live alongside them.
EJF’s work aims to be direct and effective, from investigations, field projects and community partnerships to policy briefings, reports, campaign films and international advocacy that reach the highest level of policy-making in government, business and amongst the public.
EJF was founded in 2000 by Steve Trent and Juliette Williams, who remain its directors, and who today work with an international team based in the UK, Spain, Germany, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Liberia and Serra Leone. Our work is guided by a UK board of trustees and supported by our patrons, who help our campaigns to reach new international audiences.
