Ian Mayes, The Guardian's readers' editor, reveals the results of his staff poll on the paper's use of the page one picture of Saddam Hussein hanging from a noose. He asked two questions. Was it right to use the picture? Was it right to use it on the front page? He writes: "Journalists were divided almost equally, with a slight overall majority believing that it was wrong to use it and most of those answering 'no' to both questions. Their views closely reflected the objections raised by readers." See also postings below: The media debate; Fintan O'Toole; and Sunday press commentaries.
