We have now raised a grand total of £250,000 for the Guardian and Observer refugee appeal since we launched last Tuesday. Thank you, generous readers!
The figure is 567% more than we raised at the same point last year. And it’s down to wonderful readers, such as Brownwen Griffiths, who wrote to us in an email:
I donated because I have many Syrian friends who have recently become refugees and I know their difficult stories.
This great news coincides with Giving Tuesday, the global day of giving. The aim is to encourage people, charities and businesses around the world to donate time, money or their voice to help a good cause.
You can read more about Giving Tuesday here.
To mark Giving Tuesday, our charity appeal partners Charities Trust – which handles all your donations from you to us – has generously offered to match any money you give to the Guardian and Observer refugee appeal today, up to £1,000.
That’s an extra incentive to give to our appeal, and you can give online here.
Linda Minnis, the chief executive of Charities Trust, said: “On #GivingTuesday, a day when everyone is encouraged to be generous and make a charitable donation, we wanted to support the exemplary work of the Guardian and Observer 2015 charity appeal.”
She added: “Offering £1,000 of match funding on #GivingTuesday is our way of recognising the efforts and the continued commitment in raising much needed funds for many worthy charities.”
Meanwhile, Guardian US is celebrating Giving Tuesday by donating advertising space to refugee charities.
So show your support to the global movement by tweeting #GivingTuesday, and get involved in the conversation around our charity appeal with the hashtag #WeStandTogether.
