Guardian Focus podcast: The Metropolitan police crisis

Paul Stephenson's resignation is the second time in less than three years that the Metropolitan police commissioner has left the post. Before that, no commissioner had jumped early or been pushed out for more than 100 years; this is a very big deal.

So what's going on with the Met? Are they in crisis?

Hugh Muir discovers what went wrong in the UK's largest police force and what challenges need to be met by them in the future.

He gets the expert views from: Jenny Jones of the Metropolitan Police Authority, former London mayor Ken Livingstone, chair of the Police Federation Peter Smyth and director of Cardiff Police Science Institutes Professor Martin Innes.

Former Scotland Yard commander and assistant inspector of constabulary, David Gilberton, then joins Hugh in the studio to assess his findings and offer ways to move the Metropolitan police force forward.
