Guardian Election Daily: Cleggmania hits Wiltshire

Nick Clegg began the day at the Liberal Democrats' election base in central London on the day the Guardian's ICM poll had his party second behind the Conservatives for the first time in its history.

Clegg's bounce since his performance in last week's televised debate has attracted a growing horde of reporters - we hear from the BBC's Andrew Neil who did most to put the Lib Dem leader on the defensive. And from a cheerful Vince Cable who says he is taking nothing for granted.

After that, it was a short train journey to rural Wiltshire, a Tory-held seat but a key target for the Liberal Democrats. Here, Clegg watched a tractor-building competition at an agricultural college before speaking to local media followed by the New York Times.

We hear from locals, students, party activists and the Guardian's own Martin Kettle, as well as Nick Clegg himself.

Elsewhere in the south west, Steven Morris reports from Totnes in Devon where the expenses claims by outgoing Conservative MP Anthony Steen has left a mood of resentment among a growing number of independent candidates.
