Guardian Daily: Police chiefs break ranks over 42-day limit

Some of Britain's most senior police officers have broken ranks with their colleagues and the government over 42-day detention. Vikram Dodd has the story.

At least seven people are dead after a man drove a two-tonne truck into a crowd on a Tokyo street before stabbing 17 people in three minutes. Justin McCurry says the man has given no motive for the attack other than he wanted to kill strangers and was tired of life.
