Guardian Daily: Oligarch to buy UK newspaper

Former KGB agent Alexander Lebedev is to buy a controlling stake in London's Evening Standard, the first Russian oligarch to buy a UK newspaper. Luke Harding reports from Moscow on Lebedev's history, while MediaGuardian's Mark Sweeney explains what the deal means for the British press.

The foreign secretary, David Miliband, is in India. Today he gives a speech in Mumbai, which is mirrored by his article in the Guardian. He says the 'war on terror' was a mistake. Our diplomatic editor Julian Borger is travelling with him.
