Guardian Daily: Obama sworn in as president

In his inaugration speech, President Barack Obama told the world: "We are ready to lead once more." We hear the reaction of some of the hundreds of thousands of Americans who travelled to Washington to witness the swearing in of their first black president. Columnist Jonathan Freedland assesses the president's words, while Ewen MacAskill looks at the challenges ahead.

In other news, Alan Johnson, the health secretary, explains to the Guardian's social affairs editor, John Carvel, the rights and responsibilities for patients and staff in the new NHS constitution, which he's launching today.

Steven Morris reports from Branscombe, Devon, where two years ago the Napoli container ship shed its cargo, triggering a wave of scavenging. An official inquiry into the incident recommends stronger leadership in the event of a similar shipwreck.

And Martin Wainwright talks to workers at Burberry's sewing factory in Rotherham, where 170 workers learned yesterday they were losing their jobs.
