Guardian Daily: Climate change scepticism on rise, says IPCC chair

One of the world's most eminent experts on global warming says 2010 could see a surge in climate change scepticism. Dr Rajendra Pachauri, who chairs the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, the UN body that summarises the findings of climate science, says the trend would cause hardship for the planet's poorest people.

Labour and the Conservatives accused each other of lying over spending commitments yesterday as they launched, in effect, this year's general election campaign. Assessing the parties' claims are senior political correspondent Andrew Sparrow and leader writer Tom Clark.

Steven Morris reports from Wootton Bassett, the Wiltshire village that receives the bodies of troops from Afghanistan. An Islamist group called Islam4UK plans to stage an anti-war march there.
