The Guardian Charity Awards 2013 recognise the hard work of small and medium-sized UK charities which demonstrate excellence in the field of social welfare.

We are pleased to announce the 30 charities who have made it on to the shortlist and have a chance to win a share of the £25,000 prize money, kindly donated by awards partner Zurich. The judging panel is chaired by the Guardian's public services editor, David Brindle, and other judges include president of the National Autistic Society Jane Asher and deputy chair of the Canal and River Trust Lynne Berry.

The five winners will be announced at a ceremony in London on Tuesday 3 December, and will also receive an iPad mini courtesy of Jigsaw24, one year's free NCVO membership, a tailored package of support from the FSI and a personalised package of communications support from the Media Trust.
