Guardian Cardiff is our latest local blog

Our Local project, as I have explained, is

a small-scale community approach to local newsgathering, and will focus on the three politically engaged cities of Edinburgh, Cardiff and Leeds.

Today, our Cardiff blog has been launched by Hannah Waldram. (John Baron is already out of the blocks in Leeds, and Tom Allan will be following in Edinburgh shortly).

A little more from the Leeds announcement about what to expect:

We are aiming to explore new models for journalism and social engagement through a mix of reporting, collaborative engagement with local communities, organisations and groups and aggregation. It is a new approach not just to journalism for us but also for technical development and commercial models.

[...]

A hugely important part of this project has been the involvement of MySociety, who we've collaborated with to provide customised versions of their civic tools, allowing and encouraging local residents to report issues, contact their representatives and generally become engaged in the governance and care of their locality. This is an important partnership for us because we share many of the same values with MySociety, and it has been very valuable to work with them on a project like this.

Do let us know what you think. If you have questions about the local project generally, or our Cardiff blog particularly, please email me, emily.bell@guardian.co.uk, or our local editor sarah.hartley@guardian.co.uk,or, as ever, post feedback here.
